In today’s society everyone utilizes the web to obtain some kind of information or perform some kind of function. Web Design is about creating mediums for this exchange. It is a course set up for students to familiarize and obtain proficiency in basic web design including html, FrontPage, and Flash. Web Design students will be exposed to various principles of layout and design. In this course students will learn the basics of:- HTML
- Expository writing
- CSS
- FrontPage
Desktop publishing gets its name from the fact that at its inception it was done on a small PC like a MAC with a program set up to display in WYSIWYG (What you see iswhat you get)format. Early on desktop publishing was a huge step up from word processing as early word processors were very rudimentary in their scope of what they could do. Now the gap between the two has been closed in some respects.Desktop publishing covers a number of different areas and enables the person who masters it to produce everything from business cards and resumes to banners and gift cards. Just because a person is effective in the use of a particular desktop publishing software, does not necessarily mean they will create well designed work. The more a person learns about the concepts of effective layout and design the more effective they will be at utilizing software for desktop publishing. The nike swoosh on a tennis shoe, the fancy web button that you use to access a particular page on a website, or the label on your favorite carbonated beverage are all examples of effective graphic design. Effective graphic design helps alleviate the clutter of visual mediums by guiding the eye or involving the mind in a way that makes less work for the intended audience. The icons on your computer screen are examples of effective graphic design. Have your ever thought how difficult your computer would be to operate if icons weren't present?
